No More Compromising- Moses’ Plight

Last night’s live focused on the theme ‘No More Compromising- Moses’ Plight.

The focus of last night’s broadcast was taken from Numbers 20:1-13, but I read vs 6-11 last night. The scene was set in Kadesh- Wilderness of Paran. In verse one, we learn that Miriam died and was buried in Kadesh, the Wilderness of Paran. She was the first of Moses’ siblings to die. Miriam’s death was a demonstration of the fulfilment of God’s promise that the generation which refused to enter Canaan would die in the Wilderness- Numbers 14:29-34.

The Context

The people of Israel were thirsty, and they began to murmur to Moses and Aaron. Moses and Aaron turned from the people and went into the entrance of the Tabernacle (vs 6). In verses 7-8, we see God give Moses clear instructions to speak to the rock and command it to pour out its water.  In verses 9-11, we see Moses and Aaron gathering the people and telling the people, “Hear now ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?”. In verses 7-8, all God told Moses to do was to speak to the rock, he was never told to address the people or their frustrations and unbelief. He was simply instructed to speak to the rock.

Last week, I shared with you all the definition of compromise- “Compromise refers to making concessions or accommodations, often involving a deviation from God’s commands or principles”.

The keyword being focused on here is “deviation”. Moses deviated from the instructions of God. He addressed the people and then did the unthinkable: he struck the rock twice. In God’s mercy, water still came out, but Moses was blocked from entering the Promised Land, both he and his brother.

What are some of the key points that can be taken from this text?

  • In Numbers 20v1, Moses loses his sister- Moses was still grieving for His sister. Further studies show that the grief Moses had for his sister led to the way that Moses responded to God’s instruction.
  • Moses was caught up between the instructions of the Lord and the murmurings of the people vs 9-11.
  • God wanted Moses to speak to the rock- what are you touching right now in your current life that you’re supposed to be speaking to?
  • His assignment was to be the vessel to carry out God’s miracle; instead, he took on an assignment God never asked of him, and that was to rebuke the Israelites.
  • Moses assumed the place of God and Provider.
  • Wherever there is compromise, strife is always present. God called the water poured out of the rock “the water of Meribah” – the Hebrew meaning is strife (Numbers 20v13).
  • Moses became overfamiliar with the instructions of the Lord ( Exodus 17v6).

The same instructions you received in your last season do not always apply in your current season, even if the situation is similar.

Moses missed what God was trying to do here in this moment of scripture. The Old Testament is a type and shadow of Jesus. In the Old Testament, Jesus is concealed, and in the New Testament, Jesus is revealed. God wanted to show the Israelites a picture of Christ and what was to come 1 Corinthians 10:4.

I had the opportunity to study the topic of epigenetics whilst studying my master’s in psychology. Epigenetics is the study of how environmental and behavioural factors can influence how genes are expressed without altering the underlying DNA sequence. It essentially explores the mechanisms by which experiences can affect gene activity, potentially influencing behaviour, mental health, and other aspects of development. Biologically, these epigenetic changes can be passed on from a parent cell to a son or daughter cell during cell division or even from one generation to the next.

Upon further study, I found that Moses’ anger stems from his lineage 10 generations prior in Levi, linked to Genesis 34.  Moses’s great-grandfather Levi, along with his brother Simeon, murdered the man who was responsible for defiling their sister Dinah. In Genesis 49:5-7, in the New Living Translation, the bible describes Simeon and Levi as “men of violence”.  We see generations later in Moses, where he kills the guard in Egypt upon seeing the guard abuse an Israelite (Exodus 2:11-12). Later, this same anger rises in Him and causes him to compromise the Lord’s instructions in Numbers 20, and He misses out on entering the Promised Land.

Prayer Point: Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank You, Lord, for this study and for highlighting the areas in my life where I may have compromised Your word. Lord, uproot in me any hidden pattern, behaviour or habit that will cause me to be hindered from accessing my place of promise and destiny. Remove every negative attribute that will hinder me from accessing your perfect will for me. Father, I repent for the spirit of compromise, and I pray release your grace upon me to fulfil your instructions in its entirety in Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

No More Compromising

Last night’s live was convicting, but it was a call to change. I spoke about coming out of compromising the word God and the instructions that God has given for this time and season.

The focus scripture of last night’s broadcast was taken from Genesis 11:31 and Genesis 12:1-4, where I focused on the life of Abram who later became Abraham in Genesis 17:5. Throughout the scriptures about Abraham, we see his journey from Ur of the Chaldees with his father Terah and brothers, Nahor and his wife and Haran and his nephew Lot and his wife Sarai to Canaan. In Genesis 11:31 it says.

“And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran and dwelt there”.

When I read this scripture, the Holy Spirit zoomed in on the word “dwelt” and upon further study of the scriptures, dwelt in Hebrew means lived or settled. Terah had started the journey from Ur of the Chaldees and was making his way to Canaan with his son, daughter-in-law, and nephew. What intrigued me was that their destination was Canaan, so what happened between them leaving Ur of the Chaldees, and what made them dwell in Haran?

Where have you built a house where you were only supposed to pitch a tent? Where have you settled for the good thing instead of the God thing in your life?

This is just my interpretation, I believe Terah became sentimental, after all, he had just lost his son Haran in Genesis 11:28.

“And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees”

Being in the place that held the same name as his son brought some sort of comfort and sentiment. Research shows that Haran was in northeast Mesopotamia on the river Belias about 60 miles above its confluence with the river Euphrates. It was a trade centre on the route from Ninevah to Carchemish. It was also the chief seat of worship of the moon god Sin. Terah settled here instead of continuing his journey towards Canaan as per the original plan. In Genesis 11: 32 we see Terah dies.

“And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran”

But God continued speaking….

I believe this journey was more about Abram than it was about the rest of the members of his family. The instructions are released to Abram, and God tells Abram in Genesis 12:1,

“Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and thy father’s house unto a land that I will shew thee”.

Abram receives direct instructions to leave his father’s house and not to take anyone from his family with him. Kindred means relatives or family members. What God wanted to do for and through Abram, He needed Abram to be separated from his bloodline. It is important to note here that Abram came from a bloodline of Idolaters Joshua 24:2.

In verse 4, we see compromise coming into play as Abram takes Lot with him. “So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him: and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran”.

And this leads me into the subject of compromise. Closer study on the journey of Abraham, there are several times where he compromises the word of God about God’s promises over his life. To compromise means to make concessions or accommodations, often involving a deviation from God’s commands or principles. God tells Abram to leave his family behind, but he takes Lot with him.

Every time you compromise God’s word concerning you, it leads to spiritual decline and in turn strife shows up. In Genesis 13, we see this play out between Lot’s and Abram’s herdsmen in Genesis 13:7. Another effect of compromising God’s word is he stops speaking, After God speaking to Genesis 12:1-3, there is no evidence of a conversation between Abram and God until Genesis 13:14 after Abram separates from Lot. Are you finding it difficult to hear God because of the compromise that is currently in your life?

Another example of Abram compromising the word of God is In Genesis 15:4, God promises Abram that a child will come from His own bowels but in Genesis 16:1-3, he adheres to Sarai’s suggestion and marries Hagar and conceives Ishmael. But that is not what God said. The promise was about Abram and Sarai not just to Abram. Abram idolised convenience more than what God said. God is very specific with His word. He told Abram that his heir would come from his own bowels.  Bowels in Genesis 15:4 refer to the womb or reproductive organs. Abram is a man, so he doesn’t have a womb. Do you know who has a womb? Sarai. Though God was speaking to Abram, He was speaking to Sarai too because they are one flesh. In Genesis 16, there is no evidence of Abram resisting this suggestion, so Hagar births Ishmael in Genesis 16:4. What happens as a result of this compromise, strife shows up between Sarai and Hagar, and Hagar ends up fleeing.

Every time you choose convenience instead of carrying out the instructions of God exactly as He said you should, you are compromising. Wherever there is compromise, there is convenience and settling. And this always leads to strife and a lack of peace.

The root of compromise is the spirit of disobedience which is rooted in idolatry. You see this same idolatry showing up in Abram’s life. Anything you hold above God’s word and His instructions is an idol. Read 1 Samuel 15:22-24. Saul reverenced the people and obeyed their voice more than he did the instructions of the Lord through the Prophet Samuel. Because of this compromise, he lost the kingdom.

This is a serious warning in this hour and time, God is calling us out of compromise.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Father, I repent of every dead work in my life. Lord, I repent for every time I compromised your word of instruction and settled for convenience rather than doing what You told me to do exactly as you told me to do it. Lord, I ask You to wash me and cleanse me with the Blood of Jesus Christ and renew my heart and make me over, Lord. Father I pray as I leave the compromised thing behind and go after Your perfect will for my life, Lord I pray for mercy and I pray Lord redeem the time that I have lost as a result of the compromise I have entertained and accelerate me to the right path that you have ordained for my life in Jesus name I pray amen.

Garments of Favour

Welcome to the new month of May. I believe we have entered a season of divine favour where we will have what we say.

Zechariah 1v1-3 shows us a picture of Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose. According to Haggai 1v1, Joshua was the high priest at the time. Zechariah had a vision of Joshua standing before the Lord, and he was clothed with filthy garments. Joshua was a ministering priest. Satan was accusing Joshua of being unfit to minister before the Lord as a high priest due to his filthy clothes.

Isn’t it like the enemy to accuse you as you step out to become everything that God has ordained and called you to be? The name Satan means adversary or opponent, and he stands against us as the people of God in every spiritual battle Ephesians 6:10-18.

The Angel of the Lord, who we know is Jesus, rebukes Satan and exercises authority. There is a perimeter set for the enemy to harass, accuse and attack God’s people but God always strictly regulates what he is allowed to do and how far he can go, as per Job in Job 1:12.

Zechariah 3:1-3 is a clear picture of what takes place in the courts of heaven. I have been hearing that the “court is in session”. In this season, God is granting us new garments just like He did in Zechariah 3. In verse 2, the Lord speaks of Joshua the High Priest: “is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?”.

A brand was a burnt, burning or smouldering piece of wood- it is like a campfire with a blackened, charred chunk of wood smoking in the ashes- it is not worth much at all and will be consumed completely if not plucked from the fire. The Lord was telling Satan that he chose Joshua Himself, and that is where Joshua’s worth lies, not in his garment.

In Zechariah 3v4-5, we see Joshua’s iniquity removed and he is given clean garments. The Hebrew word for filthy is the strongest expression in the Hebrew language and means the most vile and loathsome character. In verse 4, Joshua receives a new garment, which is the main focus of this blog. Joshua’s iniquity was removed, and he was given a “change of raiment”. In verse 5, Joshua received a “fair mitre” upon his head, which meant a clean turban. The turban was part of the high priest’s garments, and on the front, it had a gold plate inscribed with the phrase “Holiness to the Lord”, which can be found in Exodus 28:36-38.

I believe that for the last couple of years, the enemy has fought the people of God. I sense God is judging everything the enemy has done from the last season, and he is restoring old filthy garments for new garments and crowning his people as a symbol of the royal status we have acquired through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord is rebuking the enemy on your behalf. Walk in your new garments of favour.

Happy New Month.

Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for every person who is facing a battle of unworthiness and is constantly being harassed by the accusations of the enemy. Father, I pray that you will restore the person reading this right now, and may you wash them with the blood of Jesus Christ. Lord, I ask that you remove the garments of disfavour and release the garments of favour upon your people, Oh Lord. Father, crown your sons and daughters with the turban of favour according to Zechariah 3:1-5, and every weapon being formed against your people, Lord, I decree and declare that the weapons will not prosper. Every tongue that rises against your people in judgment, I condemn it now in the name of Jesus Christ. Father, I thank You that we already have the victory in Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

Broken Engagement! Revived Destiny

Almost five years ago, after believing God privately for my spouse, I met the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. It was a whirlwind romance and within just over two months of dating, I heard the question I have been waiting to hear since I was 17 years old (that was when I received the first prophecy about my marriage) “Will You Marry Me”.

It was the ring I had dreamt about. Everything seemed to feel like a dream. A year later, my dream turned into a nightmare; everything that could go wrong started to go wrong.

I tried my hardest to make it work. I heard various counsels from trusted leaders and mentors, and every time there was an argument, the focus was always on what I had to do to improve the relationship. I had to adjust my attitude and stop letting my emotions take over, but little did I know, it was my intuition and the Holy Spirit all along, guiding me to realize that if I didn’t walk away, my destiny was on the brink of being derailed.

In September 2022, I made the decision, after being ghosted for the third time, that I deserved better, and I would rather have a broken engagement than a broken destiny. I ended the relationship and moved on with my life. I realised I was courting a person with narcissistic tendencies. I realised it was my very idolatry of marriage that manifested this awful encounter. In the first four weeks of being single and without a ring, I realised that God allowed my plans to be wrecked before my plans wrecked me. It was indeed His mercy that rescued me from a lifetime of misery and unhappiness.

Unfortunately, this heartbreak opened me up to a grief I could hardly explain or process, so I just delved into another relationship, which also proposed the intention of marriage. That too, ended awfully, and it led me to my journey of healing. I recognised that my obsession with the ‘prophetic words I received in my 20s created a false hope, which allowed the enemy to create a counterfeit reality of what I thought was the manifested word over my life.

Tonight, I decided this was the time, after six years of silence on this platform, to share my story, not for pity but to encourage my single sisters and brothers to wait patiently on the Lord. Do not rush to create a manifested reality in your life. The process God has you on is so necessary for the promise that He has already prepared for you. A year and four months after the last breakup, I can say I have been revived and my purpose is restored. There is a revival in my soul, and I know that this resurrection of my identity and purpose is so that I can help another woman to walk through the pain of a broken engagement or relationship. There is life after the breakup. There is hope after a broken heart.

In this season of my life, I can breathe again, I am dreaming again and my hope is restored. Through everything, I can see God’s hand protecting me even when I went against my intuition and against His holy promptings, He still walked through every painful phase of the last four years with me.

Prayer: Father, I commit the person reading this blog before you right now in the mighty name of Jesus. Lord Jesus, I commit their hearts into your hands, and I pray that you will mend every broken heart. I pray that you will breathe life into every hopeless area of their lives and may they find the courage to dream again. Revive their hearts again from the bitterness and anger stemming from their broken relationship. Purge their hearts with your blood, Lord Jesus. Uproot grief and release hope, joy, and strength in the mighty name of Jesus. Lord, give your son/daughter beauty for ashes in Jesus’ Name I pray amen.
